Description

Some watches simply don’t come up often in original condition with everything still together. This IWC ref. 1872 is one of them. Finding a blue-dial example on its bracelet is already a treat; finding one in beautiful condition as a full set, with original papers dated 14 February 1976, makes this a particularly special collector’s package.

The distinctive TV-shaped cushion case brings unmistakable seventies character, while IWC’s own automatic calibre 8541B with Pellaton winding provides the substance beneath the dial. In my opinion, this reference deserves a place alongside better-known names such as the Yacht Club: the same appeal of proper IWC watchmaking, with a shape and personality very much its own.

For me, the blue dial, bracelet, condition and completeness are what make this one difficult to replace. It’s a combination you rarely get the opportunity to buy, and exactly why I’m pleased to offer it at Yellow Seconds. Your chance to own a less familiar, but no less compelling, piece of IWC history.

Specific condition notes
The glass, crown, bracelet and clasp are in near mint condition - with some logical scratches on the clasp from normal wear. The dial has some noticeable marks at the 9 o'clock position - they appear much larger on the pictures than in real life. Other than those marks, the dial is in mint condition. The case has small dents and scratches, no particular scratch that stands out.

The photographs form part of the description, so please review them carefully. Keep in mind that close-up images can make marks and signs of wear appear more noticeable than they are to the naked eye.
